Users and Audience
The audience is University of North Texas freshman. These tips are also useful for students who are not first-year students, but have otherwise been issued their first ID recently.
Objectives
Summarize the four key uses for a University of North Texas student ID card.
Link to resources so that students can learn about the topics discussed in depth if needed.
Process
The primary question I asked myself while creating this was, “What would I have wanted to know about this topic when I was a freshman?” I reached out to several UNT freshmen to discuss the infographic’s tone, content, and design.
Firstly, I didn’t want the tone to be too authoritative; while the audience is new to campus life, the text deeded to remain respectful of their adult status as well.
Secondly, I needed to ensure the content addressed several sub-audiences. While meal plans and on-campus residence are generally required for first-year students, not every student has both. I made sure to address these cases by presenting the meal plans and campus residency as conditionals rather than generalizing the audience.
Thirdly, I wanted the design to communicate the content at a glance. I made the overview content in the shape of an ID card to convey the topic. Then I used iconography to represent the ID’s four main use cases.
Finally, I included links to the official pages for each respective topic, since the information presented in the infographic is not exhaustive. This way, any readers who want more details about the topics presented can easily access them.
